Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. this week announced an exclusive five-year agreement with OhioHealth, a not-for-profit healthcare organization providing healthcare services to 46 Ohio counties. Under the terms of the contract, four award-winning OhioHealth hospitals - Grant Medical Center, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Doctors Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital - and six diagnostic imaging centers will acquire more than 20 Aquilion CT.
   
Toshiba also recently announced the installation of six Aplio ultrasound systems at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva, Ill. The new Aplio systems allow clinicians at the hospital, and the new Center for Breast Health on the Delnor campus, to expand imaging capabilities and improve overall diagnostic confidence when evaluating patients or conducting complex interventional procedures.


Dynamic Imaging announced that IntegradWeb PACS will be implemented at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, N.Y. Orange Regional's integrated delivery network consists of Horton Medical Center, Arden Hill Hospital, and seven additional distributed imaging centers.


Emageon Inc. recently announced that CHRISTUS Health (CHRISTUS), a health system with facilities in seven states and Mexico, plans to implement HeartSuite, the company’s cardiology image management and visualization system. The system will be used across the network of 14 CHRISTUS facilities providing cardiovascular services.


Singapore's Republic Polytechnic has purchased 55 licenses of 3D-DOCTOR software developed by Able Software Corp. The software will be used to equip the department of Biomedical Electronics for use as a teaching tool on subject of "Fundamental Concepts of Medical Imaging and Processing" and for 3D modeling and rapid prototyping applications.


CareTech Solutions, an information technology (IT) and health information management (HIM) services company for hospitals and healthcare systems, recently announced the completion of a substantial upgrade to the Detroit Medical Center’s (DMC) IT infrastructure. In a collaborative effort with Cerner Consulting Services, a business division of Cerner Corp., that serves as the primary technology provider for the DMC’s clinical information system (CIS), CareTech has completed the requisite hardware and software improvements to enable the implementation of electronic medical records, effectively creating a ‘paperless’ clinical environment that will operate across the DMC’s multiple.


Data Distributing LLC announces that Numed Inc., a service provider of diagnostic imaging services, has chosen its DICOM CD Station for digital collection and distribution of patient images, for 50 imaging centers throughout the United States.
Reseller D2 Digital Solutions will provide Numed with this system.


Eclipsys Corporation and Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation (AHSC) in New Brunswick, Canada recently announced an agreement for AHSC to implement Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager and its fully integrated modules, including Sunrise Acute Care, Sunrise Critical Care and Sunrise Emergency Care. Atlantic Health Sciences selected the Eclipsys clinical information system to better address multiple patient-safety and electronic health record initiatives.


Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology (F&S) recently added three imaging centers and two orthopedic practices to its growing national client base. Each client has contracted with F&S to provide in-depth subspecialty radiology interpretations for all radiology interpretations, or in some cases, as a complement to their existing radiology staff. The new clients are:
  • Bitterroot Imaging Open MRI in Hamilton, Mont., for all interpretations for its imaging center;
  • Central Medical Imaging (CMI), an imaging center in Royal Oak, Mich., a suburb of Detroit, will use F&S for MRI and CT interpretations;
  • MRI Professionals in Chicago, Ill., has contracted with F&S to provide interpretations for its two Chicago area Open MRI clinics;
  • Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center, an orthopedic practice in Garland, Texas, will use F&S for providing MSK MRI interpretations; and
  • Wisconsin River Orthopaedics, an orthopedic practice in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., has contracted with F&S to provide all radiology readings.

Misys Healthcare Systems announced that Arnot Ogden Medical Center, a user of the company’s CPR and Connect beta systems, will replace its existing laboratory information system with Misys Laboratory. The system is designed to manage laboratory data across the entire hospital, enabling laboratory technicians to effectively improve all laboratory patient care and workflow needs. Arnot Ogden is a 250-bed facility located in Elmira, N.Y.


Varian Medical Systems announced that cancer patients in western Australia will receive radiotherapy treatments using the company’s equipment at a new cancer center in Perth. Stereotactic radiosurgery for pancreatic cancer patients and an advanced program of IMRT are among the new treatments being introduced at the new Sir Charles Gairdner Centre. The new facility has been equipped with two Varian Clinac iX linear accelerators and a Trilogy system.
