Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., will complement its existing IT architecture by rolling out GE Healthcare's Centricity picture archiving and communication system (PACS). The hospital said it plans to eventually integrate the system with its computerized patient records.

The system will allow Berkshire Medical Center to share images with its sister facility Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, Mass., BMC's Hillcrest campus and its outpatient medical office.

BMC will begin installing the hardware and software this fall, and it expects to begin using it in early 2005. Three storage sites at the hospital and one located off-campus will back up the system.
