Misonix inks distribution agreement for United Kingdom, Ireland
Misonix, a developer of ultrasonic medical device technology for cancer ablation, has entered into a four-year distribution agreement with Imaging Equipment of Bristol, England, for the distribution of its SonaStar ultrasonic surgical aspirator, the BoneScalpel ultrasonic bone cutter and the SonicOne ultrasonic wound debrider.

The agreement provides Imaging Equipment with the rights to sell in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and includes minimum purchase requirements. The Farmingdale, N.Y.-based Misonix said the agreement follows its joint venture with Imaging Equipment to market the Sonablate 500 high intensity focused ultrasound system to clinicians in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The SonaStar is used by neuro and general surgeons for the removal of both hard and soft tumors, while sparing most vessels, Misonix said. Also, OsteoSculpt bone sculpting technology can be employed with the SonaStar to remove osseous structures, thus providing access to the surgical site. The BoneScalpel is a tissue-specific osteotomy device capable of making cuts through bone and hard tissue, while preserving delicate soft tissue structures. The SonicOne is an ultrasonic wound care system that offers tissue-specific debridement and cleansing for removing devitalized tissue and fibrin deposits, while sparing viable cellular structures, according to the company.
