NEC offers new 5MP grayscale display
Dec. 7 — NEC Display Solutions of America, a provider of commercial and residential LCD, plasma and projector displays, launched the MultiSync MD21GS 5 megapixel (MP) flat-panel monitor for medical imaging applications, including mammography and PACS, during the 93rd scientific assembly and annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) at McCormick Place in Chicago.

The 5 MP display is pending FDA 510(k) approval, which the company expects in January.

“This medically certified 5 MP display embodies the precision, high performance and intelligence one would expect from NEC, a leader in display technology,” said Stan Swiderski, product manager of professional and medical displays for NEC Display Solutions.

With a 2560 x 2048 native resolution, NEC’s 5-MP display includes in-plane switching LCD module technology, which the company said offers powerful details of medical images and 3,061 possible shades of gray. It also includes a backlight sensor and DICOM calibration, as well as a 30-ms response time and a contrast ratio of 600:1.

During RSNA, the Itasca, Ill.-based company also highlighted the integration of NEC Display Solutions and NEC Visual Systems, which the company attributes to their capacity to fulfill the displays needs of every department of the hospital, according to Swiderski.
