NetApp offers scalability, simplification for storage
Network Appliance Inc. demonstrated at HIMSS06 last week in San Diego how secure, reliable, and cost-effective NetApp storage solutions help manage exploding data growth within the healthcare industry. The company recognizes that patient care is job number one so scalability and simplification is a recognized value. The FAS3000 series delivers support file services, FC SAN, IP SAN, and multiple network configurations, while offering scalability to higher performance systems with seamless, painless upgrades. Also, the FAS3000 systems fully extend the value of the FlexVol capabilities built into Data ONTAP 7G by increasing disk performance even for small data volumes. FlexVol technology can reduce storage management costs and increase customers' storage utilization by up to 50 percent. Combined with the new SATA storage option, primary storage costs can be reduced by more than half.

NetApp’s NearStore represents SATA-based storage platforms optimized for data protection and retention applications. It bridges the gap between primary storage and offline storage by providing much faster data access than offline storage at a cost much lower than primary storage. This makes NearStore ideal for data protection and retention applications such as disk-to-disk backup, disaster recovery, archival, compliant retention, and content storage.

Through its acquisition of Decru last year, NetApp also showcased its series of new products designed to strengthen storage security.  The Decru DataFort FC1020 is a 10-port storage security appliance that delivers 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) of total encryption and compression throughput for Fibre Channel tape environments; the Decru DataFort S115 is a 2-port appliance for SCSI tape environments; and the DataFort platform now incorporates enhanced system security features, including hardware-based SHA-512 cryptographic hash functions.
