New Products: AccuSoft, Aurora Imaging, Breece Hill and UltraRAD, CIVCO, GE, Medison, Rimage
AccuSoft, a supplier of imaging SDKs, image processing, and data analysis software, is shipping a complete native .NET Imaging SDK (software development kit) for creating medical applications for the Microsoft .NET framework. ImageGear MD for .NET allows developers to combine the company’s medical toolkit with the pre-coded solutions of the .NET framework to create medical imaging applications using entirely managed code. Additional features include:
  • Rendering of 3D images either from a multi-page image or a set of 2D images as input;
  • Ability to read waveform data from multiple modalities into vector representation;
  • Support for Presentation State Objects to allow consistent display of images on various devices and media as well as storage of specific display settings;
  • Storage of annotations and additional tags such as patient/study information;
  • Complete API for data set creation and removal, including the modification, addition, and removal of data elements;
  • Real-time contrast adjustment using Window level, rescale, and gamma correction transforms;
  • Support for the International Color Consortium (ICC) color management specification for mapping RGB color spaces to CMYK;
  • Rapid porting from current Windows forms applications to zero-footprint Web form applications; and
  • A complete set of annotation marks (text, line, polyline, ruler, etc.,) and the ability to import/export these marks to XML files

Aurora Imaging Technology released its breast MR Imaging system SpiralRODEO, which is designed to speed exam time without a loss in imaging quality. Because of SpiralRODEO’s acquisition efficiency (three times that of traditional 3D Fourier transformation reconstruction), resolution is increased along with a decrease in scan time for better dynamics, said Steven Harms, MD, Aurora’s medical director. According to the company, the system is able to produce images that offer signal improvement comparable with that of a 4.5T (Tesla) system. Additionally, Aurora System is designed specifically to image the breast and optimized for breast imaging and interventional procedures. Other system features include an ellipsoid magnetic shim that provides coverage of both breasts, the chest wall, and bilateral axillary lymph nodes; a precision gradient coil with the high linearity required for high-resolution spiral reconstruction; a patient-handling table; a fully integrated Interventional System for MRI-guided biopsy and localization; and the company’s AuroraCAD computer-aided image display system designed to improve the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic interpretations.

PACS and teleradiology system provider UltraRAD and Breece Hill, a provider of data protection systems, developed an all-in-one backup, recovery, and archive appliance for called UltraARCHIVE for small and medium-sized medical organizations, as well as departments or remote sites of large healthcare operations. The integrated system is based on Breece Hill’s unified disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) iStoRA backup and recovery and UltraRAD’s UltraARCHIVE software that provides scalable levels of service on either a fee-per-terabyte-stored or a fee-per-procedure basis.

CIVCO Medical Solutions released a disposable single-use endocavity needle guide for use with SonoSite’s C8 transducers. This disposable needle guide is engineered to direct minimally invasive instruments by following on-screen guidelines, to give physicians a fixed path of needle guidance, and to increase the efficiency of ultrasound-guided procedures. The C8 needle guidance system aids clinicians with tissue biopsy, fluid aspirations, and catheter placement. The guide snaps securely into locating features on the transducer, is packaged with a latex cover, and accepts 16 to 18 gauge instruments. CIVCO also offers needle-guide-only kits.

GE Healthcare launched its Centricity Practice Solution, a single clinical and financial practice management system, which will be showcased at the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) 2006 Annual Conference in Las Vegas next week. Centricity Practice is designed to deliver real-time clinician decision support by providing access to nationally accepted, evidence-based clinical guidelines. The system also includes new tracking, measuring, and reporting capabilities to measure quality outcomes against national standards and keep up with increasing pay-for-performance programs.

Medison of Seoul, Korea, introduced the SonoAce X8 a multi-modality ultrasound system, adaptable for performing abdominal OB/GYN, small parts, vascular, and or cardiac examinations. SonoAce X8 also features a number of functions including high-resolution 3D imaging, live 3D, 3DXI, full spectrum imaging, dynamic MR, spatial compound imaging, and modifiable system controls via simple new software protocols.

Rimage released its network-attached Producer III 7100N and 8100N disc publishing systems for networked, centralized production of custom CDs and DVDs. The Producer III 7100N and 8100N enables the connection of any desktop within an organization through a network or remote access. The built-in computer is designed to free users from dealing with a separate keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Producer III 7100N and 8100N also provide disc-printing templates. Users can create a menu of standard templates for users to select from, making the publishing process uniform across the organization.

Siemens Medical Solutions Angiography, Fluoroscopy, and X-ray (AX) Division introduced a new 3D Stereoscopic Display system to enable physicians to view more clearly vascular structures in the human body. Physicians specializing in angiography will be able to utilize this system by viewing a 3D stereoscopic display to improve decision-making for faster and more confident treatments. By mimicking the perception of the human eye, the display creates two or more views of an object to produce a stereoscopic impression delivering depth information. This enables physicians to understand complex vessel structures that can be more easily differentiated via this display. The 3D display enables physicians to provide more efficient treatment for diseases such as vascular aneurysms, stenotic narrowing of vessels, and vascular malformations.
