EMC announced the third generation of the EMC Disk Library family of disk-based backup and recovery systems. The EMC Disk Library 4000 Series is an open systems virtual tape library (VTL) that designed to assist users in expanding beyond tape. EMC claims the system doubles the performance and scalability of previous EMC Disk Library systems. In addition, new software capabilities were announced with consolidated media management through new integration with Veritas NetBackup from Symantec, in addition to previously supported EMC NetWorker 7.3 software. EMC Disk Library is an open virtual tape system that gives customers control of their entire tape pool through a single application interface and eliminates many steps common with traditional VTL deployments.
