Nuance to extend clinical language technology
Nuance Communications, a Burlington, Mass.-based company specializing in speech-enabled clinical documentation, has developed a technology called CLU (Clinical Language Understanding).

CLU is a healthcare-specific natural language processing technology that can identify and relate medical facts, as well as “understand” what caregivers are saying, converting it into data that can be accessed later.

Nuance said CLU will be used in Nuance’s upcoming QualityAnalytics data analysis engine and in speech recognition systems being developed in partnership with 3M Health Information Systems.
