The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) has released a web-based game to help providers learn about best security practices for health IT.

Players assume the role of a small medical practice’s primary decision-maker and are tasked with responding to security challenges. Essentially a multiple-choice quiz, the game delivers a series of questions asking players what they would do in certain scenarios.

Breaches, backup data storage procedures and wireless network security are just some of the issues the game addresses.

The concept of gamification as a means of engagement is gaining traction in healthcare and the ONC’s security game, available on the ONC website, continues that trend.
