ScImage touts hefty VHA contract to deploy PicomEnterprise
For ScImage, at SIIM 2007 in Providence, R.I., it was big news sharing how in March they landed a contract from the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) for its nationwide telegradiology program serving more than 150 medical centers. The contract is an example of how ScImage’s PicomEnterprise system, with one database and a shared infrastructure, simplifies workflow for organizations with multiple departments and/or multiple sites.

The VHA will use PicomEnterprise to make up for staff shortages in certain areas. The system features several time-saving clinical applications for TelePACS over broadband infrastructure. PicomEnterprise will be placed in VHA datacenters to provide a virtual reading environment for radiologists from anywhere while administrators can monitor reading progress, exam volumes and workflow efficiencies.

PicomEnterprise delivers exam-specific visualization tools for review of ECGs, echocardiography studies, cardiac cath procedures, nuclear medicine viewing, multi-detector CT, PET/CT exams, MRI or chest films. PicomEnterprise also boasts a built-in RIS that enhances clinical and business workflow by providing real-time web-based scheduling, management reporting tools, film tracking, mammography reporting and billing services.

The newest PicomEnterprise features include a private worklist with automatic transfers to secondary readers after time lapse and a voice over IP collaboration through the workstation. For the VHA, the system will effectively work as a “nighthawk” service.
