Siemens and Olympus to design new endoscope system
Siemens Healthcare will collaboratively develop a magnetically-guided capsule endoscope system for intragastric observation with Center Valley, Pa.-based Olympus Medical Systems.

According to Malvern, Pa.-based Siemens, the technology would allow stomach examinations to be performed by the patient swallowing an endoscope in the form of a capsule and then the physician, via a joystick, will be able to steer the capsule to the areas of interest anywhere in the stomach.

The company said that the capsule will provide real-time high-resolution images on a display in the examination room.
