Siemens completes acquisition of GSD
Siemens Medical Solutions has completed its acquisition of Berlin-based Gesellschaft fur Systemforschung und Dienstleistungen im Gesundheitswesen mbH (GSD). The acquisition was first announced in January.
The new entity is called Siemens Medical Solutions GSD GmbH, but will remain a separate entity, operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Siemens Medical Solutions as part of the Health Services (HS) Division.
Siemens said it made the move to buy GSD to bolster its position in the European healthcare IT market. With the addition of GSD's and product lines, the move is planned to enhance Siemens' global healthcare IT portfolio and infuse additional industry expertise into its product and service offerings for the European market. GSD generated revenue of $31.1 million (USD) and employed 167 people in fiscal year 2006.
The acquisition follows the Siemens’ completed purchase of Diagnostic Products Corporation (DPC) and Bayer Diagnostics. Each move has been calculated to support Siemens' strategy of building a full-service diagnostics company that combines diagnostic imaging, laboratory diagnostics and clinical information technology under one roof, Siemens said.
