Silex and Troy Group join to offer data security products
Following its recent acquisition of the wireless & connectivity system provider TROY Group Inc., Silex technology America now offers an even broader range of tools for securely modifying, transferring and storing confidential patient records, as well as securely connecting medical devices to wireless and wired networks and to the internet. These products were on display at HIMSS 2006.

The new complete Silex product line includes cost-effective network connectivity and biometric tools that help healthcare organizations – and the information within them – remain secure.  With these solutions, it is possible to connect any medical device that has a USB, RS-232/422/485, or parallel port to an Ethernet wired network or to an 802.11b/g wireless network, thereby allowing centralized monitoring and control of all devices in a healthcare facility.  External box solutions are available for simple plug-and-play connectivity for end-user and VAR customers, while embedded module solutions are offered for medical device OEM customers.

Silex offers a comprehensive suite of security capabilities that meet the HIPAA Security and Privacy Rules. The company’s industry-leading biometric fingerprint readers and software can be used to restrict access to computers, printers, and documents containing sensitive patient information, with automatic file/record encryption and decryption.  In addition, silex device server products implement major networking security standards like 802.1x, EAP, TTLS, LEAP, PEAP, WEP, WPA, and WPA2 to ensure that sensitive data will not be compromised.
