SonoSite, a hand-carried ultrasound developer, has introduced the S-FAST point-of-care ultrasound tool, an device designed to focus on the specialized visualization needs of an emergency physician.

The S-FAST ultrasound tool can be carried, mounted on an IV pole, or fixed on a wall or ceiling and can also withstand being dropped from three feet onto a hard surface, according to the Bothell, Wash.-based SonoSite.

The company expects to begin shipping the device in the fourth quarter of this year.
