Things seem to be going from bad to worse for radiology in British Columbia.
Last fall the Vancouver Sun reported that patients in the province face the longest MRI wait times in all of Canada even though the government has spent tens of millions of dollars to get things moving.
Now the newspaper is making it known that rads serving a hospital in the city of Terrace have to re-read thousands of diagnostic images due to the discovery of a track record of “inconsistencies and misinterpretations” pointing to a radiologist who has been placed on leave.
“There are 5,278 patients who had radiology tests during the period when a new radiologist came to work at the hospital,” the Sun reports. “The now lone radiologist at the Terrace hospital will be assisted by other radiologists in the Northern Health region who can see images remotely since the system is digital.”
