X-ray marks the spot for image quality
Alara CRystalView R200Alara (Booth #2587) is showcasing its CRystalView R200 desktop CR system. Designed as a compact system small enough for desktop or mobile use, the CRystalView R200 system combines excellent image quality with a 50-plus-plate-per-hour output for a variety of clinical settings including small office practices, clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms, and other demanding imaging environments.

The CRystalView R200 system offers a compact size suitable for desktops or mobile applications.



Agfa HealthCare (Booth #3339) is introducing its new DX-S-I, an integrated DR system that is applicable for all general radiology applications and particularly well suited for emergency rooms and pediatrics. The system is awaiting FDA 510(k) clearance. Agfa also is showcasing its latest digital x-ray image processing software MUSICA2 (multi-scale image contrast amplification), which offers improved image visualization and greater autonomy. The software is able to analyze images and automatically apply the appropriate image enhancement parameters independent of the exam. MUSICA2 also offers improved visibility with more perceptible details, especially in comparison to softcopy viewing. The software is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2007.

Agfa’s new CR 30-X also is being demonstrated. This compact tabletop CR system with a single-slot digitizer is suited for decentralized general radiography, military field hospitals, orthopedics, dental, chiropractic, and veterinary use. It is available with NX, Agfa’s image identification and quality control tool.



Canon CXDI-50CCanon Medical Systems (Booth #1352) is spotlighting its newest digital radiography (DR) systems — the Canon CXDI-50C Portable DR System and the Canon CXDI-40EC Premium DR System. The CXDI-50C features a 14 inch x 17 inch image area with the LANMIT 7 (Large Area New-MIS Sensor and TFT) detector technology and delivers high-quality diagnostic images efficiently with minimal x-ray exposure to patients, making it ideal for pediatric orthopedic use, while the CXDI-40EC is equipped with a large 17 inch x 17 inch imaging area for capturing x-ray images large and small with no need to adjust detector orientation.

Canon also is displaying a full line of DR sensors integrated to a wide range of x-ray systems — from the affordable CXDI-50G integrated to a wide range of portable solutions such as the AMX-4 DR upgrade, RadPro 40kW mobile, and the RadPro 4kW portable. The company also is showing a field deployable digital radiography system integrated with the CXDI-50G and the RadPro Overhead Tube integrated with the full-size CXDI-40EG detector.

In addition, Canon is showcasing its latest version of DR Image Viewer software, which moves routine quality assurance and image manipulation away from the CXDI DR system to help maximize the efficiency of the DR systems.



CMT SmartRadCMT Medical Technologies (Booth #4756) is showcasing its SmartRAD and R/F & Angiography SmartSPOT PrimaX systems. CMT is further enhancing its offering by providing advanced solutions and options to these systems. The SmartRAD family of digital radiography solutions, available in a variety of dual/single FPD configurations, is now offering FlexiScan, a fully integrated computed radiography (CR) that can serve as a flexible, additional “detector” for special views, and SmartStitch, an application for extended-length imaging (up to 47 inches x 17 inches) of the lower limbs or the spine for orthopedic studies.

The FlexiScan features a CR reader and dedicated software that enables full integration of the CR reader with the SmartRAD DR’s working environment. All general radiology activities including patient registration, image acquisition, postprocessing, and archiving are done on the SmartRAD’s workstation for CR images, alongside the DR images obtained by the Pixium 4600 Flat Panel Detectors.

In addition to its SmartSPOT PrimaX RF and SmartSPOT PrimaX DSA that offers an advanced high-resolution digital R/F and angiography imaging solutions for the retrofit market, CMT is exhibiting two new features: the SmartSPOT PrimaX FPD, which is a premium digital R/F and angiography imaging solution based on the Pixium 4700 Flat Panel Detector by Trixell, and LFH (Last Fluoro Hold), which provides retrospective saving of fluoroscopy images. CMT also is spotlighting the SmartSPOT PrimaX FPD, a works in progress based on the Pixium 4700 Flat Panel Detector by Trixell.



Eastman Kodak Company (Booth #3700) is debuting a new multipurpose digital radiography (DR) system that enhances ease of use and productivity. The KODAK DIRECTVIEW DR 9500 system features three operator interfaces to minimize the need for technologists to move during imaging exams. The ceiling-mounted U-arm tube and detector, combined with multiple operator interfaces, equips this single-detector system to perform exams that normally require dual detectors. The DR 9500 easily moves around the patient, making it ideal for general radiography, pediatric, geriatric, and trauma patients. The Bucky and tube are always aligned, enabling faster positioning and greater patient comfort and convenience. The DR 9500 system accommodates a variety of popular mobile radiographic tables.



Fuji Medical Systems USA (Booth #7130) is demonstrating its Fuji Computed Radiography (FCR) digital x-ray systems, including the FCR Carbon models and FCR ClearView-1. FCR Carbon is a small, full-featured CR system with two models — Carbon XL and Carbon X — that offer the same capabilities but are differentiated by throughput. FCR ClearView-1 features the digital x-ray image quality of Fuji’s four-cassette, multiplate system, the FCR ClearView-CS, but delivered in a single-cassette design.



GE Healthcare’s x-ray business (Booth #7158) is highlighting the work of luminary physicians who continue to use GE’s Definium digital radiographic technology and advanced applications to improve patient care. The fixed-room DR system, Definium 8000, includes a number of advanced applications to enhance productivity. The company’s portable digital x-ray system, Definium AMX, expands the reach of GE’s digital flat-panel detector technology by meeting the needs of virtually any portable application, the company says. The Auto Image Paste application provides physicians with single panoramic views of the human anatomy, particularly the spine and legs, without any visible seam lines.

Lastly, the company is demonstrating its Lunar iDXA bone mineral density system designed for the detection, diagnosis, and treatment monitoring of osteoporosis. The system can also simultaneously assess body composition and ascertain fat distribution. The system has been recently validated for measurement of patients between 300 and 450 pounds.



iCR7200 Dual Bay CR systemiCRco (Booth #4509) is demonstrating their . The iCR7200 Dual Bay CR is the company’s latest addition to its digital imaging solutions products line. It is designed to scan phosphor screens (CR plates) using patented technology and can simultaneously process two cassettes for rapid throughput of 180 full-size plates per hour, using two high-resolution CR bays. The 7200 also features 16 bits/pixel source file (65,000 shades of gray) performance.

The Dual Bay CR patented design incorporates a precise scan mechanism known as iCRco’s flat scan path. Nothing touches the active area of the plate, and there are no stresses placed on the plate during the scanning process.

The iCR7200 Dual Bay is available as a desktop machine or with an integrated cart. The cart is capable of containing an integrated dry film/paper printer or containing rack-mounted components such as iCRco’s PaxBox Image storage unit.



Imaging3 (Booth #4387) is demonstrating its prototype Dominion system, a mobile, 3D, real-time medical diagnostic technology designed for 3D real-time fluoroscopic imaging, as well as emulating other medical imaging technology, such as CT scans, much more cost effectively.



Konica Regius 370Konica Minolta Medical Imaging (Booth #2729) is showcasing its latest software release for the REGIUS Xpress CR system. Version 2.10R01 features a more efficient workflow environment by enabling technologists to easily append studies, search for patient history and images, image zoom for quality assurance at the console, and filtering lists to adjust study parameters. Additional features of Xpress CR Version 2.10R01 include image inversion, screen output queue, and output of series description to PACS.

The company also is highlighting its new Blue Moon lifecycle products. Blue Moon’s features include software upgrades, cassette and repair benefits, and on-demand configuration changes. Blue Moon also provides comprehensive system protection extending from preventive maintenance to disaster response. The Blue Moon Series consists of three plans: Tradition, Select, and Elite.




Lodox (Booth #3290) is showcasing its Statscan Critical Imaging System, a flexible format DR system designed for high-throughput trauma, emergency, pediatric, orthopedic, forensic, and general radiography, and which offers a bariatric radiography option. Statscan takes x-rays of any size, up to a full body in 13 seconds, and because of its enhanced linear slot scan technology, the system eliminates scatter and reduces dose.



Philips Medical Systems (Booth #1965) is demonstrating enhanced interventional capabilities of its angiography suite. The Allura Xper FD20 captures twice the amount of clinical information at a resolution four times greater than conventional angiography systems, the company says. The Philips 2K imaging flat detector system with pivoting functionality is designed for a complete range of vascular procedures, both diagnostic and interventional. Allura 3D-RA integrates with the Allura Xper FD20 to provide real-time 3D reconstructions of complex vasculature using a single rotational scan.

Enabled by the integrated 3D approach, Philips offers high-speed XperCT, which provides soft-tissue imaging capabilities in the interventional suite with no need to transport the patient. XperCT data are displayed within 90 seconds after acquisition.

Philips’ 3D Roadmapping technology ensures that the 3D image is registered with the system in real time and overlaid with live 2D fluoroscopy.

Philips also is showcasing the MultiDiagnost Eleva with 3D reconstruction, which provides a full 180-degree C-arm rotation for quality images available from several patient positions. Additionally, Philips BV Pulsera’s 3D reconstruction aids in visualizing complex structures intra-operatively.



Quantum QV-9000Quantum Medical Imaging (Booth #4365) is showcasing its new QV-9000 Digital Universal Radiographic System. The system offers newly automated positioning features. All positioning motions of this C-arm type system are fully motorized and synchronized for maximum patient throughput. Once the exam is selected from either the modality worklist or directly by the technologist, the QV-9000 automatically moves itself into the position required to complete the examination. The system can be easily positioned from either the digital operators control monitor or from Quantum’s TechVision.

The QV-9000 is a direct digital imaging system designed for use in imaging centers, orthopedic facilities, and hospital overflow rooms that desire to maximize patient comfort and require high patient throughput.

Quantum also is exhibiting its enhanced version of TechVision, a tube/tableside operator touchscreen featuring Quantum’s Digital Image Preview.

Finally, Quantum is introducing its latest digital radiographic generators, called the Q-VISION HF series, which have a 12-inch full-color touchscreen control and are available for both digital and conventional imaging.



Siemens AXIOM Luminos TFSiemens Medical Solutions (Booth #4129) is showcasing its AXIOM Luminos TF tableside fluoroscopy system, designed to accommodate the growing population of obese and bariatric patients. Siemens surveyed radiologists and physicians at 13 medical facilities to determine the product specifications of the new system. Customers cited increased weight capacity as the top priority. Featuring a wide table and high weight limit, AXIOM Luminos TF is designed for a full range of patient profiles. The system can support up to 600 pounds in the locked horizontal position and 500 pounds with table movement. Additionally, a spacious 55-cm-wide opening between the imaging table and intensifier enables larger patients to fit easily within the system. The larger space is also advantageous for applications such as swallow studies.

In addition, the system’s optional mobile Flat Detector enables facilities to improve their workflow. The mobile Flat Detector eliminates the need to use film or computed radiography cassettes. All images can be stored in one patient folder.



Swissray International (Booth #7713) is exhibiting its APS (Automated Positioning System) designed to streamline radiography workflow by automating all positioning and image acquisition requirements. Patient data can be transferred directly from the RIS/HIS via DICOM worklist. With its remote control and memory function, the system can be moved quickly and precisely into the desired application. Seconds after exposure, a fully diagnostic image appears on Swissray’s SwissVision workstation for review, storage, and follow-up.
Swissray also is showcasing its ALLinONE Stand for DR orthopedic applications. The stand facilitates the performance of special DR applications such as scoliosis and long leg studies as well as weight-bearing examinations.

In addition, Swissray is launching its worldwide Proactive Remote Monitoring service. To reduce customers’ total cost of ownership and to maintain its 99 percent uptime guarantee, Swissray is introducing this service jointly developed with Questra. The service fully supports monitoring, diagnostics, proactive and reactive alarms, remote desktop control, software configuration management, and analytics on a real-time, 24/7 basis.



Toshiba America Medical Systems (Booth #1129) is demonstrating its full line of x-ray offerings, including the T.Rad-PLUS Digital and Kalare systems. Designed for maximum flexibility, the ceiling-mounted T.Rad with portable DR panel is built with independently moving components and features a 700-pound table capacity and color touch-screen control panel for tableside operation. The Kalare R&F system incorporates a portable DR panel, creating a 100 percent filmless system. Both systems allow clinicians the flexibility to obtain images from any position without moving the patient.

Toshiba is showcasing its patented suite of integrated planning tools available on its full line of Infinix 3D vascular labs — DeviceFusion and BoneFusion. Working collectively, these applications permit physicians to distinguish bones or implantable devices from blood vessels during complex vascular procedures. In addition, proprietary GuideView technology enhances visualization of guide wires and other devices by fading live image backgrounds during fluoroscopy procedures.

Toshiba also is displaying its Infinix VC-i with 12x16 Flat Panel Detector (FPD), a dedicated angiography system.

Toshiba also is introducing a works in progress — its first floor-mounted, multi-axis x-ray system and the latest addition to the Infinix-i series family — the Infinix VFi/BP/FD.



Varian PaxScanVarian Medical Systems (Booth #8533) is showcasing new and updated PaxScan products including:
  • The PaxScan 2520V replaces the 2520 for the cardiac and conventional C-arm market. The new panel eliminates the command processor — an extra piece of hardware that was needed with the 2520 — and replaces it with virtual software. The 2520V delivers 14-bit grayscale contrast resolution by integration of new ASIC chip technology. The resulting PaxScan 2520V is suited for applications utilizing nine-inch image intensifier tubes.
  • The PaxScan 4030CB with Varian’s second-generation Command Processor (CP2) is the company’s panel for cone-beam CT imaging. The CP2 takes the 4030CB, reduces the size of the original command processor-based design by 50 percent, and eliminates several hardware components that are now programmable. This panel is suited for medical diagnostic x-ray equipment requiring a large 20-inch diagonal imaging area. It offers low-dose performance, achieved through the company’s readout electronics and a cesium iodide scintillator.



Vidar Vision 4000VIDAR Systems (Booth #8313) is exhibiting the VIDAR VISION line of full-featured DR systems for all radiography environments, including imaging centers, orthopedic practices, small to medium-size hospitals, private clinics, and outpatient areas of larger hospitals. The VIDAR VISION systems feature excellent image quality, rapid image acquisition, improved productivity, and ease of use at a price comparable to CR systems. VIDAR VISION systems display images in 10 seconds or less, resulting in faster visualization and streamlined treatment for improved patient care. The VIDAR VISION 4000 features a 4K detector to meet the higher-resolution imaging needs of high-volume imaging centers, orthopedic practices, and hospitals. The VIDAR VISION 3000, with a 3K detector, is geared for lower-volume, office-based use. 





Ziehm Imaging (Booth #6526) is highlighting its full-size Vision C-arms utilized in surgical fluoroscopic procedures at hospitals, outpatient clinics, surgery centers, and physician offices. The mobile c-arms are used for minimally invasive and interventional procedures performed in vascular surgery, orthopedics, pain management, neurology, and others.


X-ray Peripherals
AADCO Medical (Booth #3135) is showcasing its new sterilized disposable surgical drape that can be placed within the sterile field over a patient’s body to absorb the radiation scattered from the patient. Called X-drape, the product is made from AADCO’s proprietary non-leaded composite radiation absorbing material, X-Ban. X-Drape works within the sterile field to significantly reduce dose, from scatter radiation, up to 98 percent.

AADCO also recently introduced MRI-Safe, a mobile examination lamp with a floor-mounted mobile base.


Fluke Biomedical (Booth #7526) is demonstrating its 35080M199XAY Non-Invasive kV Divider and Medical ScopeMeter Kit designed to streamlines setup and analysis time and rids users of the need to spend calculating scope traces to derive kV values. The miniaturized Non-Invasive kV Divider is designed as a companion piece to the ScopeMeter for the service engineer or BMET that frequently needs to calibrate or assess kV performance with minimum setup time consumed.


Unfors Instruments (Booth #1739) is unveiling a light probe for connection to the company’s Xi X-ray QA system. The light probe is compatible with all Unfors Xi Base Units and is capable of measuring luminance with a perfect cosine match for ambient light. Contact luminance measurements can be performed on CRT and LCD monitors as well as view boxes in the range of 0.05 to 50,000 cd/m2.
