The Japanese Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Agency has granted Zoll Medical approval for the marketing and distribution of its AED Plus and AED Pro throughout Japan.

According to Chelmsford, Mass.-based Zoll, the technology uses CPR feedback technology—Real CPR Help—to provide CPR to sudden cardiac arrest patients. The approval in Japan makes the Zoll AED products the first on the Japanese market with CPR feedback capabilities.

The company is currently negotiating with a Japanese distributor to create a multi-year purchasing agreement in exchange for exclusive distribution rights. Zoll said it expects shipment of the products to begin by the end of the year.
