EMC debuts next-generation of Avamar
Data storage and archiving firm EMC has released the latest iteration of Avamar, which includes enterprise backup capabilities for desktop and laptop computers.

Businesses can leverage the same Avamar de-duplication technology that protects data centers and remote offices to backup the information stored on corporate desktops and laptops, said the Hopkinton, Mass.-based company.

EMC said that Avamar's virtualization capabilities, through support of VMware vSphere 4 and vCenter and vStorage integration, offer customers robust backup and restore options. The Avamar management console has been integrated with vCenter, providing a single point of management for all backup options.

EMC said it has increased Avamar backup capacity by more than 60 percent and added new de-duplicated export to tape functionality.
