HIMSS: Blumenthal to speak on ONC efforts
National Coordinator for Health Information Technology David Blumenthal, MD, will be the HIMSS 2010 keynote speaker on March 3, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., sharing his thoughts about the Office of the National Coordinator’s strategic efforts to advance rapid adoption and meaningful use of health IT.

Blumenthal’s address is one of many Federal Health Architecture and ONC-sponsored events within the National Health Information Network (NHIN) and CONNECT area in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase. In total, 25 demonstrations will involve 42 organizations, ONC stated.

The demonstrations are divided into four categories that align health outcome policy priorities:

  • Improving quality, safety, efficiency and reducing health disparities;
  • Improving care coordination;
  • Engaging patients and families in their healthcare; and
  • Improving population and public health.

Demonstrations in each of these four areas also include another key priority: ensuring adequate privacy and security protection for personal health information, ONC added.
