Congressman wins MITA award, makes the news for fighting medical device tax

The Medical Imaging and Technology Alliance (MITA) has awarded U.S. Rep. Bill Flores of Texas its 2016 Innovation Award for, among other things, his role in securing a two-year suspension of the Affordable Care Act’s medical device tax. And a local TV station has brought the development to its community.

After accepting a plaque in front of a new CT scanner at CHI St. Joseph Health in Bryan, Texas, Flores told KBTX-TV that the provider institution “is on the leading edge, particularly when it comes to imaging technology, and they and their suppliers would have had more difficulty getting these new life-saving technologies here in our local community if we hadn’t been able to get the tax suspended.”
