RSNA foundation awards a record $4 million to up-and-coming researchers, scholars

By the time 2016 is in the books, RSNA’s Research & Education Foundation will have supported 101 young researchers in 54 academic medical institutions to the tune of $4 million in grants.

That dollar figure represents a “personal best” for the foundation, as does its 2016 funding rate of 30 percent of applications received, according to RSNA’s press office.

Meanwhile the organization has awarded educational grants to two international recipients, one from India and one from Nigeria.

“We were extremely fortunate this year to have received so many strong grant applications,” says foundation chair Burton Drayer, MD, in prepared remarks.

Drayer credits the record-level funding to financial support provided by “the entire radiology community,” whose number includes “numerous individuals, our private practice partners and corporate supporters.”

RSNA adds that every dollar awarded by the foundation “results in more than $40 of additional funding received as principal or co-investigator by sources including the National Institutes of Health, corporations and private foundations.”
