Cantel boosts its presence in GI endoscopy for $100M
Looking to grow its presence in the gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy business, infection-control giant Cantel Medical has acquired Texas neighbor Byrne Medical, which develops disposable infection-control products used in GI endoscopies. The purchase price was $100 million.

The merger allows Cantel’s approximate 80 sales consultants to offer GI specialists the means to mitigate infection risks across the "endoscopy-procedure cycle,” stated the company.

Cantel also will purchase Byrne property and facilities to develop a disposables manufacturing operation in Houston, according to the statement.

Don Byrne, founder and principal owner of the company that bears his name, will become a Cantel employee. He agreed to a three-year contract and a separate non-compete agreement.

Cantel made the acquisition through Medivators, a business group of Cantel subsidiary Minntech, which has its headquarters and major manufacturing operations in Minneapolis. Medivators designs, manufactures and markets a range of endoscope supplies, including devices and accessories.
