SIIM: Vital Images introduces universal viewer
Vital Images is debuting VitreaView, a universal viewer that provides uniform access to patient imaging and is accessible through the EMR, EHR and health information exchange, at the annual meeting of the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) in Washington, D.C., June 2-5.

VitreaView provides a central view of patient image history, which means that image data can be received from disparate databases and then viewed through one universal viewer, said the Minneapolis-based provider of advanced visualization and analysis technologies.

With VitreaView users can view DICOM and non-DICOM images, review 2D multi-modality data, access basic review tools, perform comparative reviews and perform a historical search of data. VitreaView's software-only platform is browser and operating system independent. In addition, it is designed to leverage scalable, fault tolerant and virtualizable servers in existing data centers, the company stated.

VitreaView is pending 510(k) approval and not available for sale in the U.S.
