Bruker completes Varian product acquisition, inks deal with Agilent
Molecular and materials research technologies provider Bruker has closed its acquisition of three former Varian product lines from Agilent Technologies, which have become part of the new Bruker Chemical Analysis Division, a part of the Bruker Daltonics mass spectrometry business, for $37.5 million.
Agilent obtained approval for its acquisition of Varian earlier this month, and Agilent and Bruker have entered into a transitional services agreement to facilitate the uninterrupted delivery of the three acquired product lines, said Billerica, Mass.-based Bruker.
As a result of the acquisition, the company is anticipating a Chemical Analysis Division operating loss of $3 milion-$5 million of one-time acquisition, relocation and transition expenses during the remainder of 2010, and an additional $1.5 million-$2.5 million in operating loss expenses. As the new product lines and Chemical Analysis Division field organization are transferred to and integrated into the company, gradually improving Chemical Analysis Division financial performance is expected for the second half of 2010, said Bruker.
