CMS awards more than $9 million to four states
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced awards of more than $9 million in federal matching funds to help four state Medicaid programs prepare to implement EHRs.

The stimulus package provides 90% federal matching funds to cover state planning efforts related to the EHR incentive program. States also can use the funds to administer incentive payments, audit health care providers who receive payments; and promote interoperability among EHRs.

In the latest round of grants, CMS reportedly has awarded $1.85 million to Louisiana, $1.37 million to Maryland, 1.04 million to Minndesota and $4.93 million to New Jersey.

Since November 2009, CMS has awarded nearly $67.6 million in planning grants to 39 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
