International Isotopes seeks to build new nuclear facility in N.M.
International Isotopes has submitted a license application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for its depleted uranium de-conversion and fluorine extraction processing facility.
The company selected a 640-acre building site for the facility just west of Hobbs, N.M. in March 2009 and completed the conceptual design report for the project in June 2009.
The NRC license review is expected to take approximately 18 to 24 months to complete, according to the Idaho Falls, Idaho-based company.
International Isotopes plans to select a design and build contractor, initiate some pre-license construction activities at the Hobbs site in 2010 and complete the construction by the end of 2012.
