President Barack Obama announced the BRAIN (Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies) Initiative, a $100 million research investment project, during an April 2 event at the White House.

The president noted that while science has mapped the human genome and learned a great deal about the galaxy beyond Earth, “we still haven’t unlocked the mysteries of the three pounds of matter between our ears.” He discussed the promise of this research in finding treatments for PTSD, TBI, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and more.
