A $122 million boon for U.S. Alzheimer’s research funding was signed by President Obama on Jan. 16.

The appropriations were made available as a part of the Fiscal Year 2014 Budget and Congress, which allocated funds for Alzheimer's research, education, outreach and caregiver support.

"We commend President Obama for including Alzheimer's in his budget request and Congress for providing additional resources to convert scientific opportunity into life-changing outcomes,” said Harry Johns, president and CEO of the Alzheimer's Association, in a release. “We look forward to continuing to work together with both the administration and Congress to build further momentum toward overcoming this devastating disease.”

The newly allocated federal funding includes a $100 million increase for the National Institute on Aging for Alzheimer's research. A total of $31 billion is being allocated to the National Institutes of Health this year.
