Philips SpeechMagic earns UK innovation award
Royal Philips Electronics has won the E-Health Innovation Award in the United Kingdom for its speech recognition technology SpeechMagic in the category of 'Best use of e-health to improve efficiency', Philips said.

The award comes as a result of the implementation of the speech recognition technology at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby. The hospital was plagued with a shortage of radiology secretaries which forced the use of the technology. SpeechMagic was integrated with the hospital's radiology department's PACS. As a result, the institution reduced the average process time from examination to report authorization from just over 17 days to just below five, which translates into a 74 percent boost in efficiency, Philips said.
