RSNA 2006 kicks off
The 92nd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) kicked off today in a far more balmy Windy City than usual.

Attendance is up 3 percent from a year ago at the meeting that this year includes 1,625 scientific papers in 17 subspecialties, more than 300 refresher courses, 1,428 education exhibits and 638 scientific posters. 738 technical exhibits will occupy 514,800 square feet, an increase of six percent over last year. Twenty percent of the exhibitors are first-timers.

Attendees will occupy more than 100,000 room nights at 69 downtown Chicago hotels. Meeting participants will contribute nearly $116 million to the Chicago economy, RSNA said.

RSNA 2006 features the Molecular Imaging Zone, in which all molecular imaging exhibits and posters are grouped together. The Lakeside Learning Center features education exhibits and scientific posters clustered by subspecialty as spokes in two giant wheels. And, the infoRAD area of years past has been replaced with a new subspecialty of radiology informatics. Special presentations by the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid, Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise, RadLex and the Medical Imaging Resource Center are designed to showcase how radiologists can capitalize on emerging technical in digital imaging and healthcare informatics systems.
