Elektra updates VMAT with planning software
Elektra has updated its arc-based combined radiation therapy planning and delivery solution, VMAT [volume modulated arc therapy], with Monaco planning software.
According to the Stockholm-based company, clinicians at Heilongjiang Province Cancer Hospital in Harbin, China were the first hospital in Asia to utilize the solution in the treatment of a 49-year old male patient with lung cancer in eight minutes, compared to the standard 25-minute treatment technique using intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT).
The cancer hospital plans to use VMAT for the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and prostate, rectum, cervix and early-stage lung cancers, and currently treats an average of 16 patients a day by way of this technique, said Elektra.
