FDA clears Varian's dose calculation algorithm
Varian Medical Systems has received FDA 510(k) clearance for its Acuros XB dose calculation algorithm which can complete a RapidArc treatment plan faster than conventional planning algorithms.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company has incorporated the Acuros algorithm for external beam radiotherapy treatment planning into its Eclipse treatment planning system, which is on exhibit at the 52nd annual meeting of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in San Diego October 31 to November 4.
The Acuros dose calculation algorithm is designed for planning complex cases, such as treatments in areas like the lungs or sinuses, Varian said.
