Accident at Long Island imaging center leads to suit

The family of a man who died of a stroke following an MRI at a Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology center in Medford, N.Y., is suing the practice, claiming an accident at the center led to the stroke, according to a News 12 Long Island report.

Dan Mahony, 79, went to Zwanger-Pesiri to undergo the MRI in 2009. According to the News 12 report, Mahony’s son claims his father was not told to leave his metal walker before entering the scanner room, resulting in the walker being pulled away by the magnetic field and Mahony hitting his head on the floor.

Two days after the accident, Mahony suffered a stroke. He died two months later.

The case is scheduled to go to court in Riverhead this week, according to the report.
