Aurora completes first installation of 1.5Tdedicated breast MRI system
Aurora Imagine Technology Inc. has installed its dedicated breast MRI system at Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center.

It is the first completed installation of the North Andover, Mass.-based company's 1.5T dedicated breast MRI System with FDA approved bilateral RODEO (rotating delivery of excitation off-resonance) imaging.

RODEO is a proprietary pulse sequence designed to provide fat-suppressed, magnetization transfer contrast in a high-resolution MR image acquisition. Aurora says magnetization transfer contrast is used to reduce signal from normal ductal tissue and avoid false positive enhancement from benign lesions and dense fibro glandular tissue that is particularly common in young women. Applying the fat-suppression technique in breast MRI after contrast injection enables physicians to focus on diseases affecting ductal or glandular tissue without the distraction of fat tissue.

Aurora's says its system is suitable for a wide range of applications, such as characterizing lesions, detecting occult cancer, determining the extent of cancer, monitoring cancer therapy, evaluating the extent of cancer, evaluation of patients with positive surgical margins for residual cancer, excluding the existence of cancer in high- risk women and evaluation implant integrity, and detecting cancer in women with breast augmentations.
