Contracts: F&S, GE, IBM, Kodak, Medipattern, Siemens, Toshiba
Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind. has implemented an IBM tiered storage solution in conjunction with McKesson’s Horizon Medical Imaging PACS to help clinicians access patients' medical information faster, easier and more securely. In the short time the system has been operational, Memorial Hospital has reported that maintenance costs have been reduced significantly, and physicians are also able to more quickly access medical images. Memorial Hospital is a non-profit, 526-bed regional referral center for cardiac, cancer, childbirth, emergency medicine and rehabilitation services. 


The Medipattern Corporation announced the installation of its latest version of B-CAD, 1.2, at the Lynn Sage Breast Center of Northwestern University Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Ill. B-CAD 1.2 for breast ultrasound imaging associates multiple views of the same breast lesion and can track multiple lesions for the same patient in one record, automatically documenting the results. It performs CAD and electronically analyzes breast masses using the American College of Radiology (ACR) BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) feature categories and their descriptors to help increase accuracy and consistency.


Toshiba America Medical Systems installed its 400th Excelart Vantage 1.5T, high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system at LakeWest Hospital in Willoughby, Ohio.Toshiba's patented Pianissimo technology, which reduces noise by as much as 90 percent, eliminates the cause of patient nervousness and often removes the need for anti-anxiety medication or sedation during routine scans. In addition, Toshiba's SPEEDER parallel imaging technology allows clinicians to perform exams in a single breath hold, reducing motion artifacts and increasing image quality.


Eastman Kodak Company’s Health Group signed an agreement with Novation that makes its Carestream PACS available to nearly 2,500 alliance members and facilities. Novation is the largest group purchasing organization in the U.S. serving members of VHA, University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) and HPPI in all 50 states.

Under a new three-year contract, Novation will offer the Health Group’s PACS to hospitals, out-patient imaging centers and other healthcare providers across the U.S. Kodak also has agreements with Novation to provide CR and DR systems, radiographic films, laser media, laser imaging systems and services.


Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network (LVHHN), one of the nation’s first digital hospitals and the largest academic community hospital system in Pennsylvania, is rolling out GE Healthcare’s Centricity Electronic Medical Record (EMR) to up to 1000 local primary care physicians and specialists.


Franklin & Seidelmann Subspecialty Radiology (F&S) added five new imaging centers and one orthopedic practice to its national client base. F&S will also provide additional services to existing clients, who contract with F&S to provide subspecialty radiology interpretations as its sole provider, or as a complement to its radiology staff. The subspecialty teleradiology service is a cost-effective strategy to access a network of subspecialty radiologists on a full-time or as-needed basis.


Siemens Medical Solutions said its 5,000th SOMATOM Emotion CT system has been installed at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, Ala., a 379-bed facility. This is the second Emotion CT installed at Jackson Hospital in recent months, both of which are the 16-slice version of the system.
