GE's e-prescribing technology makes headway in Ohio
The Ohio Pharmacy Board has approved GE Healthcare’s ePrescribing technology for use by the state's physicians.

Ohio is the only state requiring two-factor authentication, according to the company. Working with OhioHealth, a nonprofit health system, GE met Ohio's e-prescribing requirements by integrating biometrics into its Advanced ePrescribing for Centricity EMR.

GE said an external fingerprint scanner helps prevent forgery by requiring the physician to identify him or herself at the point of ordering a patient's prescription. This step provides the layer of authentication and documentation required by Ohio pharmacy law.

The technology is live today at OhioHealth and is currently used by more than 200 prescribing physicians at 15 clinic sites across the state, the company noted.
