IBA nets single-room proton therapy install in Louisiana
The first U.S. installation of a single-room Proton Therapy technology from IBA (Ion Beam Applications) will be at a proton facility being developed by Willis-Knighton Cancer Center in Shreveport, La.

The single-room technology, called Proteus One, is about 49 feet x 95 feet, including the shielding walls, or about the size of two typical linac vaults, according to the Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium-based company. This single-treatment room technology may be housed in a building addition to an existing facility.

Proteus One is composed of an non-superconductive cyclotron, a cone-beam CT, a new compact gantry and treatment room. The system is valued between $25 and $30 million with an additional long-term maintenance agreement, according to the company.
