Swedish medical-technology company Elekta will install its Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion at the Niguarda Hospital in Milan, Italy. The system will be installed this month.

Located in the northern part of Milan, Niguarda Hospital employs more than 700 physicians and 1,500 nurses. Annually, more than 50,000 patients are admitted to the hospital, where more than 20,000 surgical procedures are performed.

The neurosurgery department at Niguarda, under the chairmanship of Professor Massimo Collice, president of the Italian Neurosurgical Society, will treat tumors and other brain disorders using the device, according to Elekta.
