Nortel Networks aids transition to wireless hospitals
Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas has implemented Nortel Networks wireless instant messaging (IM) and presence technologies to enable the radiology department access from anywhere in the hospital’s 120-acre campus.

Nortel Healthcare Solutions said it provided Baylor doctors with IM to send wireless orders for x-rays and medical images to radiology technicians, who carry BlackBerry devices from Research In Motion, a wireless communications manufacturer based in Waterloo, Ontario.
The Toronto-based Nortel reported that its unified communications software also helps to transmit the location of a patient waiting for an x-ray and the severity of the need for the exam.
