ProvSource taps Ascent Healthcare for SUD re-processor contract
ProvSource has renewed an exclusive contract with Ascent Healthcare Solutions for Ascent’s single-use medical device (SUD) reprocessing services over the next two years.

The agreement will enable ProvSource members to save an estimated $6.5 million in supply costs and divert approximately 87 tons of waste from landfills, Ascent said. From 2001 to 2007, reprocessing saved ProvSource members $11.7 million and eliminated 136 tons of medical waste and $76,400 in disposal costs, ProvSource said.

Under the two-year agreement, which includes a renewal option, Ascent will reprocess and recycle compression sleeves, EP catheters and cables, diagnostic ultrasound catheters, orthopedic/arthroscopic, external fixation, laparoscopic and general surgery devices to members of ProvSource, a customized contracting program that handles all the purchasing needs of Seattle-based Providence Health & Services.

Providence Health & Services is an integrated health network that includes 27 hospitals and more than 35 non-acute facilities in Alaska, Washington, Montana, Oregon and California.
