RSNA: Merge shows off Honeycomb and iConnect
Merge Healthcare showcased their move to the cloud with Merge Honeycomb and demonstrated its suite of interoperability tools at the 97th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) held in Chicago Nov. 27 to Dec. 2.

Honeycomb is a cloud-based platform featuring a free image sharing application. Users will be able upload, download, view and share medical images through a web browser with no additional software needed, according to Chicago-based Merge. The application has the look and feel of a social media site, with users receiving notifications when contacts have shared an image with them.

Users can sign up now for a free Honeycomb account, with the platform scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2012.

Also on display was Merge iConnect, a suite of image interoperability tools supporting enterprise-wide image access via any approved web-enabled device. Components include:
  • iConnect Access – a zero-download image viewer;
    • iConnect Share – an internet gateway capable of receiving and morphing studies from outside the enterprise and facilitating electronic transfer of images;
    • iConnect VNA – a vendor-neutral archive to create a patient-centric record of images from all sites and modalities; and
    • iConnect Kiosk – a patient check-in device to automate the front office.
