Electronic medical record (EMR) software provider A4 Health Systems will roll out its HealthMatics ED Emergency Department Information System at BJC HealthCare's Christian Hospital and Northwest HealthCare.

Combined, the two emergency departments log more than 72,000 patient visits per year. HealthMatics ED's functionalities such as registration, triage, tracking, nursing and physician charting, disposition, charge capture, and reporting will help improve efficiencies and patient safety.

Physician order entry, lab results reporting, patient tracking and improved inter-departmental communication will also improve patient safety. Reducing delays, labs will be ordered and reviewed from the patient's bedside.

A4 has already deployed its technology at other BJC-affiliated medical centers. Both Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, and Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, Mo., selected HealthMatics ED in early 2001.

BJC HealthCare is a non-profit health-care organization with 26,000 employees. BJC HealthCare's 13 hospitals and multiple health-care facilities are located in the greater St. Louis, southern Illinois and mid-Missouri regions.
