U.K. hospital rolls out Siemens interventional imaging system
Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, in Somerset, England, has installed a floor-mounted Axiom Artis zee interventional cardiac imaging system from Siemens Healthcare for coronary angiography, angioplasty and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT).

The new equipment replaces an eight-year-old setup and is the second Siemens cath lab at the hospital, according to the company. The installation is part of the hospital’s plan to extend the current CRT services to deal with demand from the area’s aging population. In the future, this will include 24-hour PCI treatment.

Siemens said its Artis zee was selected for imaging capabilities to assist clinicians with procedures, such as biventricular pacing for pacemaker wire placement. This operation has also been improved through the system’s Multispace feature, allowing free positioning of the C-arm and table for patient access. The IC Stent software will be most beneficial when the PCI service begins, according to Siemens.

The company said its Axiom Sensis XP haemodynamic monitoring system, which integrates with the Artis zee and is networked with the existing Sensis.
