VNA of Texas selects Misys Homecare
Misys Healthcare System has been awarded a contract by the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas (VNA) in Dallas to deploy its Misys Homecare that will help the organization transition to a paperless environment.

VNA of Texas consists of multiple business lines: homecare, hospice, maternal and children's services, and long-term care (e.g., Meals on Wheels and other state Medicaid funded projects). Its Dallas headquarters and four branch locations in Ft. Worth, Denton, McKinney and Kaufman provide these services across a 21-county area in North Texas.

According to the organization's CEO, Robert Carpenter, Misys Homecare will improve the quality and accuracy of clinical and billing information from the field to back-office administration and minimize errors. "The system will enable faster information capture and improved data access and analysis for our management, referring physicians and field practitioners including nurses, therapists, chaplains, social workers, volunteer coordinators, and home health aides," he said.

Misys Homecare offers Web services for homecare agencies. VNA of Texas' field practitioners, many of whom work from home, plan to use the Misys Alert Manager, an email notification engine, to better stay in touch, Misys said. The organization will also employ the Misys Homecare Portal Module to enable physicians to review and approve 485 documents (physician orders under Medicare) either at the hospital or at their office.

The deployment of Misys Homecare is also part of a larger initiative to consolidate VNA of Texas' multiple applications onto a single enterprise database platform, the Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition.
