FDA clears Siemens mammo system aimed at small to mid-size hospitals

Siemens Healthcare has announced that the FDA cleared the company’s latest full-field digital mammography system, the Mammomat Fusion.

In the announcement, Siemens said the system was designed to meet the specific needs of the midrange price segment at small to medium-sized hospitals.

The Mammomat Fusion includes a number of features aimed at reducing radiation dose to patients, according to the company. The system features a new generation cesium-iodide detector that enables more efficient utilization of radiation. It also includes the OpDose feature, developed for Siemens’ premium Mammomat Inspiration platform, which allows users to tailor dose according to patient breast size and density.
