Fujifilm files suit accusing Hologic of misusing 3D breast imaging patents

In March 2 lawsuit, Fujifilm Holdings has accused Hologic with misuse of its patents and litigation, according to an article by Bloomberg. Fujifilm filed the lawsuit in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, accusing Hologic of infringing four patents related to 3D breast images.

Hologic has 81 percent of the 3D-imaging sector of the $4 billion global mammography market, according to a Bloomberg report, though Fujifilm received FDA approval of a 3D mammography system in early 2017.

After mediation between the two companies failed in February, a trial is scheduled to begin in April, according to Bloomberg. Fujifilm is seeking lost profits or a reasonable royalty and a court order blocking Hologic from future infringement.

The company used the phrase "shame litigation" to describe how Hologic has attempted to block it from importing products to the U.S.  A spokeswoman for Hologic has declined to comment to Bloomberg on the matter.
