Missouri governor Jay Nixon signed his state’s breast density notification bill this week, making Missouri the 19th state with a law requiring information on breast density is included with mammography reports given to patients.
The Missouri law will take effect Jan. 1, 2015.
Breast density notification laws not only continue to spread through state legislatures, they are picking up momentum. Connecticut and Texas were the first states to enact density reporting legislation, in 2009 and 2011, respectively, but last year, eight states passed such a law. Already in 2014 there have been six density reporting bills—in New Jersey, Arizona, Minnesota, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and now Missouri—signed into law.
