Sectra sees uptick in Q3 profit
Sectra of Linkoping, Sweden, has reported a slight increase in net profit for its fiscal 2009 third quarter.

For the third quarter, net profit rose 8.2 percent to SEK 12 million ($1.3 million U.S.), compared with SEK 11 million ($1.2 million U.S.). Sectra said its net sales rose 19.5 percent to SEK 226.1 million ($24.6 million U.S.) compared with SEK 189.3 million ($20.5 million U.S.) in the year-earlier period.

"The medical systems markets have not avoided being affected by the global economy and it is very difficult to assess how customer demand will be impacted in the short term," said Jan-Olof Brüer, president and CEO of Sectra.

For the quarter, medical systems booked an operating profit of 400,000 SEK ($43,500 U.S.), compared with 8.2 million SEK ($892,000 U.S.) in the same quarter last year. The operating profit was charged with higher costs in the mammography product division, which booked an operating loss of SEK 24.1 million ($2.6 million U.S.), compared with SEK 16.8 ($1.8 million U.S.) last year.
