Mobile stroke treatment bends the time and cost curves

The use of a mobile stroke treatment unit has helped the Cleveland Clinic's Cerebrovascular Center speed up time-sensitive treatment while reducing costs.

The facility began using the unit in 2014. Studies comparing those treated in the mobile unit to those treated in the traditional ER setting found those treated in the mobile unit went from emergency services dispatch to CT completion in 41 minutes and dispatch to thrombolysis in 64 minutes. Those rates are faster than the ER setting by 21 minutes and 40 minutes, respectively.
