CMS updates MRI eligibility for implanted cardiac devices

CMS updated its National Coverage Determination (NCD) conditions granting MRI eligibility to Medicare beneficiaries with implanted pacemakers or cardioverter defibrillators, according to an American College of Radiology (ACR) release.

The policy update, which went into effect April 10, came after the American College of Cardiology (ACC) teamed up with the ACR, the Heart Rhythm Society and Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance to pen a letter supporting the proposed MRI expanded coverage.

The ACR press release provided a section of frequently asked questions to help clinicians begin providing MRI services to these patients. The group urged providers to email them with further questions at advocacy.acc.org.
